NAME: RASHID GUMAROVICH NURGALIYEV
BORN: 8 October, 1956 in Nadvoitsy, Karelia (or Zhetiqara, Kustanaj Region, Kazakh SSR)
EDUCATION: *Mr Nurgaliyev is a graduate of the Kuusinen State University in Petrozavodsk (1979). *He has a PhD in economics (Thesis: “economic aspects of the formation of business undertakings in modern Russia.”)
CAREER: *Dr Nurgaliyev began his career as a physics teacher in a Nadvoitsy school from 1979 to 1981. *In 1981, he joined the KGB of Karelia, where he passed all the way from an officer of the criminal investigation department of Kalevala Regional Dept. and Kostomuksha Municipal Dept. to the Head of Medvezhyegorsk Regional Dept. and the Chief of Anti-Terrorist Dept. of the Republic of Karelia. *In 1995, Rashid Nurgaliyev served in the Central Office of Federal Counterintelligence Service (FSK – precursor to the FSB), and later in FSB, as the Chief Inspector of Organizational-Inspectorial Office, and as the Chief of Self-Security Dept. *In 1998, he took the office of the Chief of the Main Control Office of the President of Russia. *In 1999, Dr Nurgaliyev headed the Office for Drug Trafficking Control in the Dept of Economic Security. *Later on he was a Deputy Director and the head of inspectorial office of the FSB of Russia. *In 2002, Rashid Nurgaliyev was appointed the First Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs of Russia. *On March 9, 2004 he was promoted to the post of Russian Minister of Interior Affairs.
MISCELLANEOUS: *Rashid Gumarovich Nurgaliyev was born to a family of militia workers. *He is an ethnic Tatar. *He is a Colonel General in the Militia. *Rashid Nurgaliyev is married and has 2 sons. *Son Maxim attended and completed courses at the Moscow Military Academy. *Son Rashid attended training at the FSB Academy. *Dr Nurgaliyev’s favourite city is Petrozavodsk. *Dr Nurgaliyev is a Muslim. *He is a vegetarian. *Dr Nurgaliyev is a vegetarian, and enjoys doing yoga, watching hockey, and writing guitar music in his free time. *He possibly met Nikolai Patrushev in the early 90s in Karelia, and may have also been involved in birch smuggling there.
