NAME: GRIGORY ALEXEYEVICH RAPOTA

BORN: 5 February 1944

EDUCATION: *Graduated from the Designer-Mechanical Department of the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1966 with a degree in engineering.  *Red Banner Institute of Foreign Intelligence/Intelligence School No 101 of the KGB.

CAREER: *Mr Rapota served in KGB organs from 1966 to 1971. *In 1971-74 he worked as the press attaché, 3rd secretary of Embassy of the USSR in the United States. *Mr Rapota returned to Moscow in 1974 in the staff of First Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR. *From 1979 to 1983, Rapota was 2nd Secretary of Embassy of the USSR in Sweden. *Mr Rapota returned to Moscow again in 1983 where he worked in the First Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR in 1983. *In 1987-90 he was 1st Secretary of Embassy of the USSR in Finland. *Between 1990 and 1994 Rapota worked in various supervising posts in the First Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR, the Central Intelligence Service, Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation. *Mr Rapota was the deputy director of the SVR, supervised the European and American directions and the work of the SVR press department, questions of partner ties between the Russian foreign intelligence and foreign secret services from 1993 to 1998. *Between April and November, 1998, he the deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, supervised questions of nonprolifiration of WMD, rocket and nuclear technologies. *Between November 27, 1998, and August 2, 1999, he was the general director of the Federal state enterprise State Company Rosvooruzheniye. *On September 4, 1999, Rapota was appointed the first deputy minister of trade of the Russian Federation, supervised questions of military-technical cooperation between Russia and foreign countries, and also directly over Russian enterprises, the state intermediaries of arms trade, KG Rosvooruzheniye, Technoexport, Rossiyskiye tekhnologii.  *Between June, 2000, and November, 2001, Mr Rapota was the first deputy minister of industry, science and technologies of the Russian Federation. *Since October 2001, he was the secretary general of the Eurasian Economic Community, EurAzES (Organisation for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation within the CIS).  *Mr Rapota was appointed Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in Southern Federal District on 9th October 2007.  *He was transferred to the Volga Federal District on 14 May 2008.
