NAME: ALEXANDER SERGEYEVICH ABRAMOV

BORN: 10 February 1957 in the village of Kurilovo, Moscow Region

EDUCATION: *Mr Abramov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Railway Engineers in 1979.  *He later attended the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Courses under the auspices of the Government of the Russian Federation in 1994.

CAREER: *Mr Abramov started working as a repair specialist and foreman at a railroad car depot of the Moscow Railroad from 1979 to 1981.  *Beginning in 1981, he served as Secretary, and then First Secretary of the Voskresensk City Committee of the Young Communist League (Komsomol), Moscow Region.  *He was later promoted to Second Secretary, then First Secretary of the Moscow Regional Committee of the Young Communist League.  *Mr Abramov served as Chairman of the Moscow Coordination Council of the Regional Organisation of the Russian Youth Union from 1991 to 1992.  *He was deputy manager of Finist-Bank, then project manager in the public relations department of MENATEP Bank from 1992 to 1995.  *He was head of the Department of Relations with State Bodies of Rosprom ZAO from 1995 to 1997.  *He served as deputy chairman of the board of Alfa-Bank, responsible for liaisons with state authorities from 1997-1999.  *Mr Abramov became Deputy Head of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation in 1999.  *He has held the post of Secretary of the State Presidium Council of the Russian Federation since 2000.  *He was appointed to the post of Aide to the President of the Russian Federation since March 2004.

MISCELLANEOUS: *The Secretary to the State Council organises and oversees meetings between regional leaders and the president of the Russian Federation. *Mr Abramov is rumoured to have been the unofficial chairman of Putin’s Presidential Campaign in 2000. *He is a long term ally and associate of Vladislav Surkov. *Like Surkov and Shuvalov, he can be placed under the grouping of key Kremlin strategists and policy consultants.
