NAME: DMITRY NIKOLAYEVICH KOZAK
BORN: 7 November, 1958 in Kirovograd Oblast Ukraine SSR.
EDUCATION: *Mr Kozak graduated from Leningrad State University Department of Law in 1985.
CAREER: *Mr Kozak worked in the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Leningrad from 1985 to 1989. *He acted as Head of the Legal Department of Monolit-Kirovsky from 1989 to 1991. *Mr Kozak served as the Head of the Leningrad City Executive Committee’s (City Council) Legal Administration from 1990-1994. *Chair of the St Petersburg Legal Committee from 1994 to 1999. *Mr Kozak served as Deputy Mayor under Vladimir Yakolev from 1998 to 1999. *He was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of International Investment and Financial Union in 1999. *Mr Kozak was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff in August 1999. *He served as Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration from 2000 to 2003. *Mr Kozak was promoted to First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration in 2003. *He held the post of Chief of Staff of the Russian Government from April to September 2004. *Mr Kozak headed the Presidential Campaign in both 2000 and 2004. *He was appointed as Presidential Envoy to Southern Federal District in September 2004. He held the position until his appointment as Regional Development Minister on 24 September 2007. *Mr Kozak was made Deputy Prime Minister on 18 October 2008.
MISCELLANEOUS: *Mr Kozak was a protégé of Anatoly Sobchak. *Kozak met Putin while working in the St Petersburg administration. *In 2001 he authored amendments to the Criminal Code bringing criminal procedure in line with the Constitution by requiring court warrants for arrests and searches; he also drew up public administration and judicial reforms. *His self-governance reform, which was aimed at making local government more accountable to its electorate and ensuring that it adhered to its fiscal promises, became law in 2003. *Married to Natalya Kvachyova; they have three children. *Earned 3.4 million roubles in 2008, and 3.3. million roubles in 2009.
