NAME: ANDREI ALEXANDROVICH FURSENKO

BORN: 17 July 1949 in Leningrad (now St Petersburg).

EDUCATION: *Mr. Fursenko holds a Master’s Degree from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute.  *He also has a Doctorate in Physics and Mathematics from Leningrad State Technical University.

CAREER: *Mr Fursenko was a Senior Research Assistant and Deputy Director of Science at the USSR Academy of Sciences’ Physical-Technological Institute 1970 to 1991.  *He served as Vice President of the Centre for Advanced Technologies and Developments in 1991-1993.  *He served as General Director of the St. Petersburg Science and Technology Regional Development Fund from 1994-2001.  *Mr. Fursenko has chaired the Scientific Council of the North-West Centre for Strategic Development since 2000.  *He was Deputy Minister of Manufacturing, Science and Technology from 2001 to 2001.  *In June 2002, Mr Fursenko was appointed First Deputy Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation.  *He served as Acting Minister of Industry, Science and Technology of the Russian Federation from December 2003 to March 2004.  *He was appointed Minister of Education and Science on 9 March, 2004.  *Aide to the President of the Russian Federation since 21 May 2012.

MISCELLANEOUS: *Mr Fursenko worked with Yuri Kovalchyuk on the Scientific Council of the North-West Centre for Strategic Development in the 1990s.  *Brother of Sergei Fursenko.

RESPONSIBILITIES: *Provides organisational and information and analytical support of the President’s activity on issues of education and science. *Prepares drafts of the annual addresses by the President to the Federal Assembly. *General supervisor of the Presidential Consultants Directorate. *Approves official regulations for federal state civil servants occupying civil service posts in the Presidential Consultants Directorate. *Organises the activities of the Presidential Council for Science, Technology and Education.
